Red Wings on a role

Published by sal2683 under hockey Edit This

The Detroit Red Wings took a commanding 3-1 lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight after a 2-1 victory.

The win was important to Detroit for many reasons - it puts them a win away from the Stanley Cup trophy and it also sends a message to Pittsburgh that they must earn a win with everything they have.

That definitely wasn’t the case tonight.

While the Penguins may have actually scored a goal against the Red Wings, (this itself is quite an impressive feat), they have several chances to score and tie the game.

One situation came in the third period when Detroit was called for back-to-back penalities, creating a 5-on-3 power play for the Penguins.

Despite having two extra guys, Pittsburgh failed to score.

I realize that the Red Wings are a good team. This have been proven countless times during this year’s playoffs.

However, for Pittsburgh, you can’t get this far and not take advantage of those opportunities. It might very well have cost them the series.
