Tarheels can be good too
For the longest time, at least at my memory recalls, the North Carolina Tarheels have been awesome at one sport and one sport only - basketball.
Sure, they’ve had some great guys come out of other sports, like Julius Peppers, who now plays in the NFL for the Panthers. But if any of you weren’t aware, Peppers also played a couple of years on the basketball court as well.
Now UNC has another sport they can be proud of - baseball.
The Tarheels advanced in the NCAA Regionals yesterday in a 5-1 victory over UNC-Wilmington.
Pitcher Alex White got the win, going all nine innings with three hits, one earned run and eight strike-outs.
Jeff Hatcher, who pitched for Wilmington, got shelled by UNC, giving up seven hits and four earned runs.
North Carolina had only a one-run lead for the first three innings but when Wilmington couldn’t get on the board, the Tarheels stretched the lead to 4-0 on home runs by both Kyle Seager, who had two RBI, and Tim Federowicz, who had one RBI.
UNC advances to play either Mt. St. Mary’s or Elon.
