Is he or isn’t he?
Is Brett Favre really going to return to the NFL? That is the question.
Despite declaring his retirement a few months ago, the future NFL Hall of Famer seems to be changing his mind.
Favre asked to be released from the Green Bay Packers reportedly after Green Bay fans didn’t quite approve of his retirement reversal, stating instead that he would like to return to the NFL and play for another team.
Seems kind of selfish to me, especially after all of the support the Packer fans gave him, even when spectators doubted he would have anything left at the beginning of last season.
But who can blame Green Bay? Favre went from a tear-filled speech on giving up the sport he loves to turning back around. How many times has this worked out for athletes?
Look at Michael Jordan’s comeback(s). We all know what happened when he returned to the NBA to try and give the Wizards a lift.
Favre is 36 years old, and has 17 NFL seasons behind him with the latest season being one of the best of his career.
Why can’t athletes just quit while they’re ahead? When will they learn that you don’t get that many chances, so when they claim they’re going to retire after a spectacular season, that should be the end of it.
Maybe I’m being a bit harsh, considering how much passion Favre has for football, and it’s obvious every time he gets on the field. But regardless, 40 is fast approaching, which is an ancient age in the NFL, and how much better can he really get?
