Making up is hard to do
After the disastrous results of one of the biggest trading deals in the NBA last season between the Dallas Mavericks and the New Jersey Nets, it appears that the Mavs are trying to make ammends.
A little more than halfway through the 2008 season, Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban thought the one thing that Dallas was missing was experience and wisdom.
Instead of waiting a couple of seasons for his young team to mature into an even better team, Cuban decided to trade for Jason Kidd in order to get more instantaneous results.
He got them all right, thought it probably wasn’t what he had in mind, as Dallas got swept in the first round of the playoffs.
Now sources are saying that DeSagana Diop has signed a deal and will be returning to the Mavericks.
This is good news to me, and a positive step in the right direction, I might add.
Dallas got rid of Diop as well as a future All-Star guard in Devin Harris for the overrated Kidd. Also in the deal was a first-round draft pick, cash and a few other unknown players, all coming from the Mavericks.
They’ve got some rebuilding to do, but it’s going to be hard without the resources they gave away. Hopefully Cuban can hold his patience a little better this season and have more faith in his team.
