Red Wings take trophy

Published by sal2683 under hockey Edit This

Surprise, suprise.

The Detroit Red Wings celebrated with their 11th Stanley Cup title after a 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh Wednesday night.

Despite Pittsburgh adding two goals in the second and third periods to cut the deficit to one goal, Detroit hung on by getting a goal in each period for the win.

Henrik Zetterberg was named the playoff MVP. He had a goal and an assist in the win.

The loss was disappointing to the Penguins, who had rallied to force the series to 3-2 before Wednesday night.

Detroit has a rich history of winning the Stanley Cup, with some of the most recent titles coming in 1997, 1998 and 2002.

Despite the favorite team winning, this year’s hockey season had its surprises all the same, with some of the underdogs like the Stars getting all the way to the conference finals but ultimately, it came down to experience in the end.

Good season, guys.
